Saint Augustine Academy Named Catholic High School Honor Roll for 2008!

Dear families:
Remarkable! That was what was expressed last night in discussing the picture of Saint Augustine Academy over the last few years. As most private school are hurting for enrollment, ours increased! As most non-profits have been severely hit by the low economy, ours has been protected and stable. (This, despite a drop of $65,000 from two benefactors who could not give anymore.) As foreclosures lead the headlines, we have paid down our loan in excess of $2000 per month, resulting in the principal being cut in half over the last few years! As education is suffering in this country, Saint Augustine Academy is named to the National Catholic High School Honor Roll, sponsored by the Acton Institute. Mrs. ……… had the good fortune of being invited to attend the Acton Institute University this summer and gave a proud report to the faculty that this Honor Roll is truly an honor! The Acton Institute is truly a world-renowned, respected think tank on economics, society and religion - and, many prestigious high schools were not named to the Honor Roll. We were all a little more impressed with our own Academy after her report.
Thank you everyone for your ongoing commitment, dedication, service and generosity. And, as I mentioned last night, though we are all working hard, we really have to offer our most sincere thanks to Him from whom ALL BLESSINGS FLOW. We thank God for his ongoing generosity to our efforts on His behalf. And, we pray for His continued flow of grace; spiritual, emotional, intellectual and material. And we had a special mode of prayer for the school this week - two of our parents…………, have taken our intentions to Rome as they met with Pope Benedict XVI on Wednesday.
JOG-A-THON - Next Friday is Jog-a-thon Kick-off. This fun Fall event is an opportunity for the children to have a hand in helping provide for both their own education AND in the founding of the school. It is a great time for everyone - lots of fun, lots of prizes and great success as part of keep the Academy operating, (not to mention a great story for our benefactors! $20,000 raised by only 100 students!) CONFIRMATION - Attention 8th Graders and others needing to be confirmed: Confirmation classes will begin at St. Sebastian’s on September 14th at 3:00 PM. For more information call Mary………at 525-4551. This program is great, attracting confirmandi from all over the county.

This weekly section provides us with a list of prayer intentions. These provide us the important opportunity to help members of our school family in their need. For a friend of many families at SAA, …….. who suffered a major heart attack last night. For……..’s mother who is near death. For the soul of ……….., grandfather to ………, and for the family as they mourn his loss. Our Chilean students from last year had many school friends who died in a bus accident - we pray for them all. For ………..’s continued recovery. We continue to keep all our friends and family in our prayers. Let us pray for one another.
